Review summary
Based on recent reviews
Powered by AI
The Old Course Hotel provides guests with a memorable experience, with many securing suites that offer beautiful golf course, town, and sea views. The breakfast is often raved about, particularly the excellent choices and stunning views from the dining area. High tea overlooking the 17th and 18th green at the R & A is a notable experience, with unique presentation and delicious food. However, some guests have had rooms facing the parking lot, which was a disappointment.

Decent stay with some minor issues.

clean roomquiet locationpolite staffovercrowded spacold poolslow bar
my room, a double room, was clean and quiet. i appreciated the complementary toiletries. the hotel location allowed easy access to nearby attractions. the staff was generally polite.
the spa was overcrowded. i found difficulty in securing a lounge chair. the pool temperature was cooler than i prefer, a definite drawback. the service at the bar was slow one evening, and i waited longer than expected for a drink.

Underwhelming Stay. Issues Encountered

warm oysterspoor food
The Road Hole Restaurant was disappointing. The food quality did not match the view. Oysters were served warm and lacked proper accompaniments. Staff seemed unaware of the correct preparation. My daughter and I ordered the cote de boeuf. Its grey color and overall poor quality were concerning, especially for a hotel of this standard.

The staff showed fantastic service. It ensured a cute experience in every hotel area. There were many great touches. These elevated a special day even more. The breakfast had plenty of choice with attentive service! The room facilities had high quality.
I was seated in the Conservatory for dinner. The overall experience seemed very basic. The food seemed nothing special. The wine seemed very over priced. The supplement of £40pp to use the Kohler Water Spa seemed a disgrace. I think that paying guests should not have to pay an addition cost to visit the Spa area.
